Taitung hospitals at capacity with typhoon injuries

Hospitals in Taitung on Taiwan’s southeastern coast have been at full capacity and have called for extra doctors to deal with the large number of patients injured in Friday’s typhoon.

Super typhoon Nepartak made landfall in southern Taiwan on Friday morning. Taitung has so far seen 77 injured and over 300 people in need of rescue.

The city’s Mackay Memorial Hospital alone received 45 patients within an hour, mostly people with cuts to their heads, hands or feet due to broken glass or falling over in the strong winds. Hospital staff are advising people to wait until the typhoon passes before mending damage to their homes.
