President Ma Ying-jeou has instructed the Cabinet to set up a youth advisory board. Cabinet spokesman Sun Lih-chyun told reporters Friday that the Cabinet will be accepting recommendations for citizens to serve on the board from June 7-17.
Sun said that the board will consist of 19 to 25 people between the ages of 18 and 35. He said the aim is to widen dialogue between Taiwan’s young people and the government. He also said that the board is intended to give young people a chance to give the government suggestions and help shape policy.
Sun said the government hopes to convene the board’s first meeting at the end of June. "The Cabinet will begin recruiting and selecting members for the youth advisory board between June 7 and June 17," Sun said. "If everything goes smoothly, we hope to hold the first meeting of the youth advisory board at the end of June. If there is any delay because of too many applicants or any other factors, then we hope to hold the first meeting in the beginning of July."
