Transport networks return to normal after typhoon
Flights return to Taoyuan Airport

Taiwan’s transport networks have largely returned to normal Saturday after a day of closures and cancellations brought on by Typhoon Nepartak.

Taoyuan Airport, Taiwan’s main international gateway, reports that it expects 787 flights to arrive and depart Saturday. That’s 10% more air traffic than the airport handled the previous Saturday. The airport says it hopes to get passengers stranded by the typhoon on their way as soon as possible. Meanwhile, operations at Kaohsiung International Airport, southern Taiwan’s main airport, have also returned to normal, with the exception of morning flights headed for Taiwan’s outlying islands.

The Taiwan High Speed Rail Corporation announced Saturday that normal service has resumed following an inspection of tracks. Two additional departures, stopping at all stations along the route, were added Saturday morning to help clear up congestion. Meanwhile, the Taiwan Railways Administration says that with the exception of the Alishan Forest Railway, all services have returned to normal.

Most roads are also open, though the Directorate General of Highways says that five sections of road remained closed because of rockslides and other typhoon damage.
