The Taiwan Railways Administration has decided to schedule two special train services to the typhoon-stricken Taitung County in southeastern Taiwan. This is the first time the rail service has scheduled additional trains to help with relief work. The reason for doing so is that Taitung is one of Taiwan’s most remote counties, which is most easily accessed by train.
The train service is number 5242; one departed from Taipei at noon on Sunday and the other will depart at noon on Monday. Each service has about 370 free seats available for people who are helping with the relief and reconstruction efforts.
Those who are interested in taking the train can enquire at any of the stations where it stops, including Banciao, Taipei, Songshan and Hualien.
