APEC O2O

The economics and the labor ministries jointly held the APEC O2O Summit 2016 on Tuesday for small and medium companies. Senior officials from the Philippines and Malaysia were invited to attend the forum to discuss issues concerning e-commerce and mobile commerce. More than 200 businesspeople attended the event.

Vice Economics Minister Yang Wei-fu said that his office has been promoting e-commerce since 2002. Yang said output value in e-commerce over the last 13 years had grown sixfold by 2015.

Yang said Taiwan is working on promoting the second stage of the 2017 initiative with the Philippines and Malaysia. The initiative is to raise the competitiveness and resilience in e-commerce among small and medium companies to boost growth. APEC passed the initiative in July.

The plan will receive a subsidy of US$130,000 from APEC to hold events for enhancing digital knowledge. The plan also includes writing up a manual for restoring operations for companies of APEC member countries if they fall victim to cyber attacks.
