President Tsai Ing-wen has said that small and medium enterprises play a key role in advancing Taiwan’s economy and that the government will give them maximum support.
Tsai was speaking Friday during a meeting with representatives of Taiwan’s enterprises and business associations. She said SMEs have over the past 50 years helped build highly adaptive industries, provided a large number of jobs, and contributed to more balanced wealth distribution. She said the well-being of these enterprises means the well-being of Taiwan’s economy.
“I would like to especially thank our small and medium enterprises [for their contribution] to advancing Taiwan’s politics and democracy," said Tsai.
"Take the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) as an example, we are a local party with limited resources. Thanks to the support of many SMEs, we were able to grow during the last few decades and eventually become the party in power once again. I’d like to thank everyone again, not only for your contribution to the economy, but more so for moving forward our democracy and helping to build a stable society.”
Tsai also said that the government will improve policy to give small and medium industries maximum support.
