The Arizona State Legislature has passed a resolution to support a free trade agreement between Taiwan and the United States and Taiwan's bid to join the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). The TPP is a proposed free trade agreement that would include many countries along the Pacific Rim.
The resolution followed that of the state legislature of New Mexico in February. The Arizona resolution received bipartisan support. It also requires that the state secretary send copies of the resolution to the US president and trade representative to voice the state’s support for Taiwan.
The resolution points out that Taiwan is the 11th biggest trade partner of the US. It said a bilateral investment agreement will further strengthen ties.
The resolution also reiterates support for Taiwan’s participation in international organizations such as the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the World Health Organization (WHO).
