Premier Lin Chuan has called on the government to do all it can to secure transport safety. Lin was speaking during a Cabinet meeting Thursday.
A bus accident on Tuesday killed 24 Chinese tourists along with their driver and tour guide. During Thursday’s meeting, Lin and the Cabinet paid respect to the victims of the accident with a minute of silence.
Lin urged officials to identify the cause of the accident quickly.
Lin said, “I have to urge everyone: as a government, we must bear the responsibility for the safety of the people and of travelers. We must quickly clarify the cause of the accident. We must inspect public spaces and transportation systems. We must have more sophisticated and reliable management of our public transportation to ensure the safety of Taiwanese people and travelers.”
After the meeting, Lin proceeded to the mortuary in Taoyuan City to pay his condolences to victims’ families.
