Taiwanese airline EVA Airways announced Thursday that it will suspend all flights to Istanbul from July 25 due to the recent political turmoil in Turkey. The airline said that services will not resume until next summer pending evaluation of the situation.
The announcement comes the day after the foreign ministry issued an orange travel alert for Turkey. The orange alert advises people to avoid traveling to the region covered in the alert unless necessary.
EVA Airways said that passengers who have already booked tickets to Istanbul during the affected period are eligible for free cancellation or rebooking.
The airline had high hopes for the Taipei-Istanbul route when it was launched in March. Turkish Airlines continues to connect the two cities.
