Family members of the tourists who perished in a tour bus fire earlier this week have expressed anger at the lack of information they have been given.
The tour bus carrying tourists from Liaoning Province in China caught fire en route to Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport on Tuesday. The blaze killed all 24 tourists on board together with their local driver and tour guide. Forty-nine family members of the victims arrived in Taiwan on Thursday.
The authorities held a meeting for the family members on Thursday evening. The families asked about key details of the accident, including why the front of the bus caught fire and why the bus’s emergency door could not be opened. The authorities answered that they were “unable to disclose inspection information,” which angered many of the family members.
Deputy Transportation Minister Fan Chih-ku, who is in charge of the investigation, said Friday that forensic tests will take some time and no conclusions can be drawn prior to their completion.
