The Central Weather Bureau (CWB) says that a tropical depression to the southeast of Japan may form into the second typhoon of the season.

The tropical depression is in the Pacific Ocean 3,100km away from Taipei. According to the CWB, conditions in the area are good for the formation of typhoons. The Japan Meteorological Agency says that the tropical depression could become a typhoon within the next 24 hours.

However, the CWB says that even if the storm does become a typhoon, its projected track will take it off to the northeast, away from Taiwan, meaning that it is unlikely to have an impact on the island.
