Women outnumber men in Taiwan’s largest cities, with the gender imbalance the greatest in the capital Taipei. That’s according to a report released by the Ministry of the Interior on Sunday.
The report said that there were more women than men in the cities of Taipei, New Taipei, Taoyuan, Hsinchu, Chiayi and Kaohsiung. In Taipei, there are only 91.8 men for every 100 women, the lowest ratio across the country.
The ministry attributed the gap to different mortality rates between men and women and to an increase in the number of female spouses from overseas, particularly from mainland China.
Taiwan’s population stood at 23.51 million as of the end of June, the report said.
