Family members of the Chinese tourists who perished in a tour bus fire last week have agreed to compensation payouts.
Fifty-six family members of the 24 victims have traveled to Taiwan since the tragedy took place last Tuesday. In the case of all but one of the victims, the families have agreed to accept total compensation of NT$6.64 million (US$207,000) per person. Fifty-two of the family members returned home to China on Tuesday.
The group of tourists from Liaoning Province in northeastern China had completed a weeklong trip to Taiwan and were en route to take a plane home when their bus caught fire. All members of the tour group died in the blaze, together with their local tour guide and driver.
