Greece has detained 126 Taiwanese nationals in the country on suspicion of involvement with an online gambling ring. They are being held in a detention center near Athens after their arrest on Thursday.

The foreign ministry said Tuesday that Greek police have agreed to update Taiwan’s representative office in Athens and name the suspects after their initial investigation. The foreign ministry says there are no signs that Beijing is working to have the Taiwanese suspects sent to China as it has in similar cases of Taiwanese arrested in Kenya and Malaysia.

The foreign ministry also gave an update on the case of Taiwanese nationals still awaiting trial in Kenya on charges of telecom fraud. Ministry spokesperson Eleanor Wang said officials from Taiwan’s representative office in South Africa have been in contact with the court and met with five of the defendants. Wang said the government has made it clear that the suspects should be returned to Taiwan if they are found not guilty.
