The government is trying to facilitate talks between workers and employers on working hours and the minimum wage.
On Tuesday, the labor ministry hosted a talk on raising the minimum wage and shortening working hours. No representatives from the employers’ side were present. The ministry has decided to host a second round of talk by the end of September to prevent conflict between workers and employees.
In an interview on Wednesday, Premier Lin Chuan said that the government is trying to help both sides reach an agreement.
"The government’s job is to facilitate talks between laborers and employers and help them reach an agreement. [An agreement] would be the optimal outcome," Lin said. "We will work hard to get both sides to join another discussion with the minimum wage committee. And we hope that the discussion will yield a verdict that both sides agree on."
