Here, Ms. President

President Tsai Ing-wen has welcomed Nauru’s new ambassador to Taiwan, Chitra Jeremiah. Jeremiah delivered her credentials to Tsai on Wednesday.

Tsai said that her administration’s foreign policy is based on the principles of pragmatism and mutual benefit.

She said that bilateral cooperation in the area of agricultural technology has helped Nauru’s government provide more nutritious meals for the country’s schoolchildren. Meanwhile, Tsai said, an agreement between Nauru’s health ministry and Taichung Veterans’ General Hospital has also given Nauru access to specialty doctors from Taiwan.

Tsai also said she hopes to see greater bilateral cooperation in the area of fisheries.

"In May this year we signed a fisheries cooperation agreement. I hope that we will have many good opportunities to cooperate on the basis [of this agreement] in areas such as investment, research and development, training, and management [for the field of] marine aquaculture," Tsai said.

Tsai said she hopes that Taiwan and Nauru will continue to deepen bilateral ties.
