Energy bureau proposes renewable energy plan for next 2-4 years
Energy policy

Director-General of the energy bureau, Lin Chuang-neng has proposed plans for implementing renewable energy in the next two to four years.

The current administration has proposed a schedule for phasing out all nuclear plants and making Taiwan nuclear-free by 2025. However, DPP lawmaker Lai Jui-lung has expressed concern over the fact that the solar panels now being used in Taiwan can only generate 935.8 MW of power, which is only 1/20 of the 20GW goal set for 2025.

At a public hearing on Thursday, Lin said that the energy bureau has made plans to install solar panels with the total energy output of 1.44 GW by the end of June 2018. He said the bureau has also made detailed plans for installing solar panels in areas unsuitable for construction, such as on the rooftops of public facilities, on factories with high energy consumption, and over water.

There are also plans, according to Lin, to develop a new kind of off-shore wind power generator within the next four years.
