President Tsai Ing-wen will appoint a high-ranking official to attend the swearing in of Danilo Medina for his second term as president of the Dominican Republic.
Medina has been president of the Caribbean nation since 2012. He won re-election in May and his second term will start on August 16th.
The two heads of state met in Panama in late June when they attended the ceremony marking the completion of the Panama Canal Expansion Project.
To strengthen ties with Taiwan’s Caribbean ally, a source said President Tsai is likely to send Vice President Chen Chien-jen on her behalf though a final decision has yet to be made.
