President Tsai Ing-wen has praised Taiwan’s scouting movement at a ceremony marking the inauguration of the new chairman of Taiwan’s scouting organization.
Tsai is the Chief Scout of the Scouts of China, as Taiwan’s scouting association is known. The group was founded in Mainland China and came to Taiwan with the government after the Chinese Civil War.
During the ceremony on Saturday, Tsai said that scouting teaches young people skills they will carry with them through their lives. She also said that scouting is an international movement, and that through scouting, young people can bring Taiwan closer to the world. Tsai said she hopes to see Taiwan’s scouting movement grow stronger and nurture more outstanding young talent for Taiwan.
Tsai thanked the outgoing chairman for organizing the largest ever Taiwanese scout delegation to last year’s World Scout Jamboree in Japan. She also said she hopes the incoming chairman, Keelung Mayor Lin Yu-chang, will energetically promote the development of the scouting movement.
