The 2016 Taiwan Culinary Exhibition is set to kick off Friday at the Taipei World Trade Center.
This year’s event features culinary arts, utensils, ingredients, and education and is based on the theme of simple and original flavors. Tourism Bureau Director-General David Hsieh said Monday that the exhibition showcases not only Taiwanese cuisine, but Chinese and Japanese cuisines as well.
"Thanks to our promotion of Taiwanese cuisine at this exhibition, Taiwan came first in world gastronomy in online voting organized by CNN last year. This year, we invited chefs from Guizhou, Jiangsu and Fujian provinces to compete with us," Hsieh said. "In other words, last year’s food competition was a domestic one and this year’s event is a global one. Visitors will be able to learn about the cuisines and the skills of chefs on both sides of the Taiwan Strait."
The four-day event will run through August 8.
This is the 25th year that Taiwan has held the event.
