Transportation ministry to continue UBER fines
Government cracking down on Uber

The transportation ministry says it will continue to fine UBER for illegal practices.

UBER is a ride-sharing app that allows consumers to submit trip requests to fellow app users in order to share their vehicles. It officially registered in Taiwan in 2013 as a tech service company. However, the transportation ministry has fined UBER for running a vehicle sharing service while registered as a tech company, a violation of Taiwan’s Highway Act. The investment commission also revoked UBER’s investment license on Tuesday after mass protests by taxi drivers. That would mean the service would have to exit the Taiwan market. UBER has filed an appeal.

UBER has already begun to pay off a fine of more than NT$60 million (US$ 1.89 million) issued by the transportation ministry. UBER also faces allegations of false advertising from the fair trade commission.
