Global gaming sensation Pokemon GO received its official Taiwan release on Saturday. The augmented reality game allows players to capture virtual monsters with their smartphones against the backdrop of the real world.
Amid the rush to download the long-awaited game, the transportation ministry has warned players that they could face fines for jeopardizing traffic safety while playing the game.
On Saturday, the ministry reminded the public that driving while using a smartphones is illegal and will result in a fine of NT$3000 (US$95). Scooter riders and cyclists will also face fines if caught using their phones while riding.
Meanwhile, the Taiwan Railways Administration says it is monitoring platforms to ensure that members of the public do not fall onto train tracks. The Civil Aeronautics Administration has warned that entering into restricted areas will result in fines of up to NT$25,000 (nearly US$800).
The defense ministry has also told gamers to stay alert. On Saturday, ministry spokesperson Chen Chung-chi reminded the public Saturday to stay clear of military bases and other restricted areas.
