Civic group Taiwan Against Drunk Driving (TADD) has called for Taiwan’s new envoy to Singapore to step down.
Political analyst Antonio Chiang had been appointed as Taiwan’s representative to Singapore on Tuesday. Later that same day, he was caught driving under the influence of alcohol. TADD held a protest Saturday calling for Chiang to resign. The group says that it will continue to protest until Chiang agrees to give up his appointment.
The foreign ministry said Friday that Chiang would not be dispatched to Singapore until an investigation into the drunk driving incident was complete. Chiang had been scheduled to leave for his post on Saturday, but reports indicate that he has not left Taiwan.
