Weightlifter Hsu Shu-ching has won Taiwan a gold medal at the Rio Olympics.
Hsu came in first place at the women’s 53kg event on Sunday. She lifted 100kg in the snatch and 112kg in the clean and jerk. She was awarded the gold medal after Chinese weightlifter Li Yajun was disqualified for failing to complete the clean and jerk portion of the event.
Hsu’s other Olympic medal, a silver medal from the 2012 London games, may soon receive an upgrade. That’s after the gold medalist in the event, Kazakh weightlifter Zulfiya Chinshanlo, failed a doping test.
Meanwhile, Taiwan’s women’s archery team has won a bronze medal, marking a comeback 12 years after Taiwan’s last archery medal.
