The armed forces are set to begin the annual Han Kuang combined military exercises from August 22. It will be first large-scale war games since President Tsai Ing-wen took office in May.
The partially live-fire, four-day drills will focus on barracks defense, cyberwarfare, infrastructure protection and anti-blockade operations.
To coordinate Taiwan’s defense capabilities, the military is also planning to work with the transportation ministry to temporarily block the Hsuehshan Tunnel which links Taipei with the northeastern county of Yilan. It will also team up with the National Airborne Service Corps under the interior ministry to practice rescue missions.
This year, for the first time, more than 20 IT professionals have been recruited from the private sector to take part in the information warfare exercise.
