Two Taiwanese fraud suspects were repatriated from Malaysia on Tuesday. They were part of a 24-person telecom fraud ring.
This fraud ring was exposed by Taiwanese nationals who went to work in Malaysia and later discovered that they would be forced to join the telecom fraud ring. They escaped and alerted local police. Taiwan’s Criminal Investigation Bureau sent personnel to Malaysia and the two governments have been working together on the case.
The 24-peson fraud ring was discovered in Miri City, Malaysia. Nine of the fraud suspects were Taiwanese, 16 were Chinese and one was Malaysian.
Seven of the Taiwanese nationals were sent back to Taiwan in early May. The final two Taiwanese suspects returned on Tuesday had been held in Malaysia for further investigation.
