Premier Lin Chuan has vowed to invest more resources into taking care of Taiwan’s athletes. Lin was speaking Wednesday while visiting the family of Olympic gold medalist Hsu Shu-ching
Hsu came in first place at the women’s 53kg weightlifting event last Sunday. Lin said that her dedication and persistence makes her a star that all of Taiwan is proud of.
Both Hsu and her parents have called for better treatment of Taiwan’s athletes. Lin said that the legislature will set up a commission dedicated to providing Taiwan’s athletes with better training and medical treatment, and helping athletes prepare for other careers once they retire from sport.
Lin also said that under the National Sports Act, the government is responsible for assisting athletes develop other careers after their retirement.
