Solar panel arrays planned for southwest coast
Solar power

The energy bureau says it plans to install solar panels on 803 hectares of coastal land in southern Taiwan.

The project is part of the government’s two-year plan for expanding solar power generation capacity. Once complete, the panels will provide 530MW of electricity per hour. The government is expected to invest nearly NT$100 billion (US$3 billion) in the project.

The project will take four years to complete. Eventually, the project may be expanded to cover several thousand hectares of protected wetland, leading to inevitable conflict with environmental groups.
