Tsai pledges affordable & flexible senior care centers

President Tsai Ing-wen said the government is planning to upgrade its care system for senior citizens so that Taiwan’s increasing over-60 population can be cared for in their communities.

The president was speaking Friday while visiting a care center in Taipei’s Shilin district. She said the government is hoping to build a care system that offers high quality care for affordable prices, and to make each care center within easy access.

Tsai highlighted the three main types of senior care centers that the government plans to build in the next ten years: they are the comprehensive, community-based care centers; multi-purpose daytime service centers, and smaller neighborhood care centers.

Tsai said the plan requires massive investment of capital and human resources. The Cabinet has already doubled the budget to support the plan. And the government will start setting up new types of care centers starting in October in selected areas.
