The 2016 Taipei-Shanghai Twin City Forum is set to kick off on August 23 in Taipei. That’s the word from Taipei city government spokesperson Sidney Lin on Friday.
This year’s theme is the demonstration of city vitality. It will focus on medical care and health, youth exchanges, smart cities, culture as well as transportation.
Taipei and Shanghai take turns in hosting the event that began in 2010.
Taipei mayor Ko Wen-je will open the event on August 23rd though his Shanghai counterpart Yang Xiong will not be there. Yang has appointed a political propaganda official to attend the forum on his behalf.
At last year’s event in Shanghai, the private sector was invited to attend for the first time. This development introduced a new direction in exchanges that allows the private sector to experiment with their projects with government support.
