Taipei Summer Universiade athletes’ village unveiled
The room for three athletes

The organizers behind the 2017 Summer Universiade in Taipei have unveiled the designs for the athletes’ village. Members of the media were given a preview on Monday of the accommodations for the university games, which are the largest multi-sport event following the Olympics.

The athletes’ village will be located in Linkou District, in New Taipei. The village will actually be divided into an east and west village, and will feature 34 buildings, of which 23 will contain living quarters. The buildings will be able to accommodate more than 10,000 people, divided into residences for between three and seven people.

The accommodations will feature air-conditioning, WiFi, and all of the food, transportation, health, religious and entertainment needs. There will even be free condoms.

The CEO of the organizing committee for the games, Su Li-chiung says the main buildings will be completed by the end of the year.

“All of the facilities will be ready before the games begin in June. There will also be a testing period. Food and transportation are very important, and that’s all progressing on schedule," said Su.

As to security concerns, following reports of burglaries at the Olympic village in Rio, Su said that the athletes’ village in Taipei will be closed to the public. She said there would also be guards, each athlete will be given a card for entry, and the rooms will contain lockable safes for storing valuables.
