Tourism bureau officials and family members of those killed and injured in a bus accident in Fujian, southern China, arrived on Sunday to deal with the aftermath.
A Taiwanese woman in her 50s was killed and 20 other Taiwanese tourists were injured when their bus encountered a landslide Friday morning, local time. Two of the injured are in serious, but stable condition.
A senior tourism bureau official from Taiwan, Chen Chia-yi, is in Fujian. He explains the latest developments as officials continue to deal with the accident.
“The family members [of the deceased] will discuss the details about the cremation today. The insurance company will also send medical staff to the hospital to evaluate the possibility of moving [the two seriously injured travelers] via air ambulance," said Chen.
"As for those with minor injuries, the travel agency is working on the details of their return trip. The time [for the trip] has not been set, as they’re trying to book plane tickets.”
The ashes of the deceased, and the remaining Taiwanese tourists, will return to Taiwan on Tuesday at the earliest.
