Premier Lin Chuan says the government will take steps to cut CO2 emissions. Lin was speaking Tuesday at the first meeting of the energy resources and reduction task force.
Lin said since the task force was set up two months ago, it has mapped out a wind power plan and push for a solar power program. He said the government has set a goal of generating 1.44 gigawatts of electricity in two years’ time.
Lin also said the task force has assisted the Ministry of Science and Technology in planning a science city to develop renewable energy in Shalun, Tainan.
“We hope the science city will become an eco-city and become the decision-making center for our energy science and technology [policy] in the future," said Lin.
"We hope the center will work with local industry and the academic community so that the place can be turned into a hub for developing green energy in the future.”
