Employment in the third quarter of the year is at the highest for the quarter in two years. That’s the word from the Ministry of Labor on Tuesday.

There’s been an increase of nearly 60,000 jobs from April. About 31,000 jobs are in industry and 27,000 in the service sector.

Government statistics office official Liu Tian-syh explained the reason for the increase.

"The figures are much higher than those of 2012 and 2013. That’s because companies are optimistic about the future so they are hiring," said Liu. "Looking at different fields, the manufacturing industry has an increase of 30,000 employees. The highest number is working with electronic components. After that, it’s computer, electronic and optical products. The retail industry also has 7,200 more people employed and the hospitality industry has an increase of 6,800 employees."

Liu said there have been increases in many industries which show an overall positive employment trend for the nation.
