Tsai promises more education resources to center and south
Meeting the president

President Tsai Ing-wen says the government will bring more educational resources to central and southern Taiwan.

Tsai met on Wednesday with a group of students who have excelled in international science competitions. She said that scientists are an important pillar of the nation. She also said she was aware that northern Taiwan has the most educational resources. Tsai said she is working to bridge this gap, citing plans to open a southern branch of Taiwan’s top research institute.

"In particular, I want to mention the plan to set up a southern branch of the Academia Sinica," said Tsai. "We are working hard on this, and one goal of this plan is to upgrade resources for scientists in the south."

Tsai said she had originally planned to offer a few words of praise to the female students in the group. But she said she changed her mind when she saw that there were far more female students than she had imagine there would be. She said that gender should not be an obstacle in the pursuit of any career. Tsai encouraged the students to use their talents and develop their potential.
