Premier calls on industry leaders to attend meetings on labor issues
Premier Lin Chuan

Premier Lin Chuan called on business leaders to participate in meetings regarding labor issues. He was speaking on Tuesday at a national industry leaders meeting.

He said employers and employees should discuss the issue of minimum wage and other issues to find ways that are mutually beneficial.

Lin said if the two sides could negotiate on their own, they wouldn’t need the government’s help. He said he hopes the government can help the two sides find a balance that the two sides can accept.

The legislature passed an amendment to the Labor Standards Law last year, cutting the maximum working hours from 84 hours every two weeks to 40 hours per week. The amendment went into effect on Jan. 1 this year. Labor groups are now pushing for the minimum wage to be raised from NT$120 to $126.
