Interior Minister Yeh Jiunn-rong said he hopes the newly established anti-fraud center can effectively fight fraud crimes and ease public anxiety.
Taiwan’s Criminal Investigation Bureau has unveiled a new anti-fraud center on Wednesday. Interior Minister Yeh Jiunn-rong attended the opening ceremony and spoke about its significance in fighting fraud crimes in Taiwan.
“The establishment of the anti-fraud center doesn’t mean we’ve just begun to focus our attention on fraud crimes today. It is a milestone that reflects our long-term efforts. The center also represents the integration of resources [from different departments]. It shows our solid grasp on the process and our determination [to fight fraud crimes],” said Yeh.
Yeh said con men have always taken advantage of the latest technological resources and adopted new ways to be a step ahead of the police. Therefore, he said, it is critical that the police are able to amass resources and data from finance, telecommunication, and security institutions to more effectively fight fraud crimes.
Many con artists work outside of Taiwan and target victims in Mainland China. Yeh said he hopes the police on both sides can strengthen their collaboration in the fight against these crimes.
