Gov’t to continue investment in flat panel display industry: Tsai
Smart technology

President Tsai Ing-wen says the government will continue to invest in the flat panel display industry. Tsai was speaking Wednesday while visiting trade shows featuring touch panels, smart monitoring, and smart display and manufacturing,.

Tsai said that with the world’s second-highest production value, the flat panel industry has created job opportunities and propped up the scale of Taiwan’s economy.

Tsai praised the industry for boosting productivity, cutting energy consumption and taking social responsibility. She promised to offer subsidies and create a favorable investment environment for the industry. She also said she hopes to attract foreign skilled workers to boost flat panel production and innovation.

“We are moving towards relaxing the rules to address the issue of the residency of professional talent. An environment that is able to attract skilled workers must have a system friendly to their stay [in Taiwan], offer competitive wages, encourage innovation and offer safety and convenience," Tsai said."I hope Taiwan will be able to make best use of these advantages and compete with other countries [to attract] talent.”

To speed up investment, Tsai said the government will review environmental impact evaluations by cutting red tape. She said this won’t come at the expense of lower environmental protection standards.
