The National Taichung Theater has opened for a month-long trial period before its grand opening on September 30.
The theater is the work of award-winning Japanese architect Toyo Ito. The building contains no beams or columns, relying entirely on a series of curved wall units instead.
The trial period began on Friday and is meant to give managers time to discover and resolve any last-minute problems. The theater has a busy first season planned, with performances ranging from Taiwanese Opera and Peking Opera to contemporary dance and Wagner already in the works.
