Kaohsiung’s city government will begin rewarding tour operators who bring tourists from Southeast Asia and Japan to the city. That was the word from Kaohsiung’s tourism bureau on Saturday.
The move comes as Taiwan’s tourism industry struggles to cope with a more than 50% drop in the number of Mainland Chinese visitors.
Kaohsiung’s tourism bureau said Saturday that tour operators who bring Southeast Asian tourists to the city for at least two nights will receive NT$400 (US$13) per tourist. Meanwhile, bus companies will receive NT$5000 (US$160) for every bus of Japanese visitors they bring to the city, provided they stay in Kaohsiung for at least two nights.
