More women are holding key political and business positions in Taiwan. The labor ministry released new figures on Monday showing a significant rise over the past ten years.
In 2015, women accounted for 25.3% of political and managerial positions in business. That’s up from 16.3% a decade earlier.
Taiwan’s figure of about 25% is more than double the figure of 12.5% for Japan or 10.5% in Korea. However, Taiwan still trails significantly behind America, at 43.6%, and Sweden, at 39.5%.
In terms of skilled professionals like doctors and lawyers, Taiwanese women accounted for 53.1% of the work force as compared to men at 46.9%.
Women also account for 30% of union representatives, and 36.6% of the staff in Taiwan’s small or medium sized businesses.
