Taiwan and India will sign an air services agreement and a memorandum of understanding on agricultural cooperation next month. That’s the word from the foreign ministry on Tuesday.
The plan will be part of President Tsai Ing-wen’s Southbound Policy, which is meant to strengthen Taiwan’s ties with Southeast Asia and India.
Foreign ministry official Kay Lin said the move will strengthen tourism exchanges and aviation between the two countries as well as agriculture industries.
“These two agreements are very special, in that they were first announced within the government of India, "said Lin. "Aviation and agriculture are two major areas of cooperation between Taiwan and India.”
Lin said she believes that the air services agreement will help in tourism, education and trade for both countries. She said India will benefit greatly from the MOU as Taiwan has much expertise in agriculture.
