Thirteen Taiwanese athletes will participate in the Rio Paralympics that kicks off on September 7th.

Taiwanese athletes will compete in judo, powerlifting, athletics, table tennis, wheelchair tennis and archery.

At a ceremony organized by the Sports Administration on Tuesday, President Tsai Ing-wen encouraged athletes to strive to outdo their past record. Taiwan won one silver and two bronzes at the 2012 London Paralympic Games.

She also said the government will fully support sports for people with disabilities.

Tsai said, “Today’s [ceremony] is not only aimed at boosting morale, it also represents the government’s value of sports for the physically and mentally challenged. In the future, we will actively promote the sports and build a better system to attract more participants. Every one of you has set a good example for us. I hope the public will understand and join the [efforts] to promote sports for athletes with disabilities.”

The Sports Administration said the 13 athletes competing in the Rio Paralympics will fly business class to make their long flight easier.
