Two movies with Taiwan connection are expected to make waves at next year’s Academy Awards. That’s according the latest issue of “Variety”, a US entertainment magazine that covers the film industry.
Variety says that the latest movie from Taiwanese-American director Ang Lee, “Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk”, is gaining attention for its anti-war subject matter and technical innovation. Lee has employed high frame rate filming, said Variety, which will offer the audience an unprecedented immersive experience.
Another movie that Variety anticipates as Oscar-worthy is the latest feature film by Martin Scorsese, titled “Silence”. The magazine said the movie will be a historical epic with religious themes. The film features multiple scenes shot in Taiwan.
The 89th Academy Awards are scheduled to take place on February 26, 2017.
