Tsai reiterates commitment to pension reform
President Tsai

President Tsai Ing-wen has reiterated her commitment to reforming Taiwan’s pension system.

During a meeting of the Democratic Progressive Party’s Central Standing Committee on Wednesday, Tsai said that her pension reforms are necessary for the sake of future generations.

Tsai also said that pension reforms are not targeted at people in particular fields, referring to the perception that teachers, civil servants, and members of the armed forces receive better pensions than ordinary workers.

During the committee meeting Tsai also said that the ongoing inquiry into Mega International Commercial Bank’s violation of US money-laundering rules will be thorough. The bank was charged with allegedly violating the US Bank Secrecy Act and money-laundering regulations back in 2012.
