Cross-strait exchanges uninterrupted: Education Minister

There has been no major change in the number of Mainland Chinese students coming to Taiwan for studies this year. That’s the word from Education Minister Pan Wen-chung on Friday.

Some local media have been reporting a decline in the total number of Mainland Chinese students enrolling in Taiwanese universities. But Pan said that the total number of Chinese students has not changed much this year. Pan also said that the service and recruitment agencies on both sides of the Taiwan Strait have been in close communication. He said he is confident that the education ministries on both sides will continue to support educational exchanges.

“The two sides should uphold the [tradition of] of providing opportunities for young students to receive education [from across the strait]. There should not be any cutting back of such opportunities for reasons unrelated to education. Of course Taiwan will continue to deliver, and we hope that Mainland China will do the same," said Pan.
