President Tsai Ing-wen received a blind a cappella choir at the Presidential Office on Monday. The group, called “The Bleinders” had just returned from a renowned a cappella choir competition in Graz, Austria.

After listening to the group perform, Tsai hugged the troupe leader, saying how moved she was.

“I’m so proud that you were able to travel overseas to share the sounds of Taiwan with the rest of the world," said Tsai.

"I think that your talents have not been appreciated, and that we need to find a way for all of the people of Taiwan to hear your voices," she said. "Thank you for letting us hear your wonderful voices today. I hope that I can use my power as president to enable all the people of Taiwan to hear your voices."

Tsai said that from the choir’s love of singing, long-term dedication and determination to overcome obstacles, it was clear that they had the bravery to realize their dreams. She said that the government would learn from them and find ways to enable more people to realize their dreams.

The president said that her administration also faced many obstacles, but that like the choir, they would work to overcome them, and band together to share the vitality of Taiwan with the rest of the world.
