Legislature to approve Judicial Yuan nominations in late Oct.
Legislature President Su Jia-chyuan

The legislature is expected to approve President Tsai Ing-wen’s nominations for posts in Taiwan’s top judicial body at the end of October. That’s the word from Legislature President Su Jia-chyuan on Monday.

The nominations will fill a number of top posts, including the president and vice president of the Judicial Yuan, as well as five justices.

President Tsai Ing-wen has nominated Hsu Tzong-li, a law school professor, to be the president and Tsai Chung-tun, a High Court judge, to be the vice president.

Su said the legislature will act in accordance with due process to evaluate the candidates. He said it is then up to the legislators to approve the nominees. It’s likely that lawmakers will back the president’s picks, since the governing Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) holds a majority in the legislature.
