The government is hosting labor talks between business groups and laborers on Thursday, but business groups have not made it clear if they will attend.
Economics Minister Lee Chih-kung said that more communication is needed between departments and with business groups.
There has been a standstill in talks ever since the government announced in June that it would increase the number of national holidays from 12 to 19. This move would lead to additional labor costs for industry. Seven major business groups have not been willing to talk with the deputy minister of labor.
Last year, labor talks led to an amendment that reduced legal working hours from 84 hours every two weeks to 40 hours a week. But one of the conditions was that the number of national holidays would be cut to 12.
