The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) said on Tuesday that it is expanding Taiwan’s network of labs to deal with the Zika virus.

As the virus is spreading in East Asia, Taiwan’s CDC has decided to work with nine additional medical centers to do Zika testing. There were formerly only two labs, one each in northern and southern Taiwan. Deputy CDC Director Chuang Jen-hsiang explained.

"We are working with nine medical centers that can all do Zika tests. We are using the resources at these centers to decrease the time needed for tests," said Chuang.

The new centers are located in major hospitals and universities throughout Taiwan. Cases found at airports and in outlying islands will be handled by the CDC.
